Out of all the holidays celebrated in Hong Kong this has to be the top favourite amongst expat and locals alike, perhaps it has something to do with being able to dress up anyway you want, act wired and wacky and eat way too much candy!
Weather you’re heading out to the mischief and mayhem in Lan Kwai Fong or staying in with the family we’ve popped together a few Halloween tips and tricks to guide you along. Happy Haunting!
A ghost floats into a bar. The barman says, “Who ordered a spirit?”
The French Window will be serving up two wickedly good cocktails for the week of Halloween featuring Flor de Caña Rum, Denizen Rum, Regal Rogue Vermouth and candy of course.
El Presidente’s Blood – El Presidente, named after President Gerardo Machadoc is an old classic that dates back to prohibition and is a favourite cocktail in Cuba. The grenadine or in this case red candy syrup adds a little Halloween spirit to the mix of Denizen Rum, Regal Rouge and Cointreau. A refreshing cocktail that’s full of flavour.
The Green Goblin – we’re breaking all the rules here with this sweet and sour cocktail. We’re using Flor de Caña Rum infused with green candy, to that we add a good splash of lemon juice and top it off with an egg white foam.
These cocktails are available for the week of Halloween Monday 28 October – Sunday 3rd November. Sign up to our eNewsletter to grab a Halloween Cocktail voucher to use at The French Window that brings a 25% SAVING!
If you’re heading to Lan Kwai Fong to walk amongst the living dead we’ve put together for your pain and pleasure our favourite Halloween Haunts to get your blood pumping.

When we think of Halloween we think pumpkins and not only do we love carving up a gory gourd or two but we love eating pie! Like this devilish Pumpkin Pie with Cinnamon Crunch and Bourbon-Maple Whipped Cream by Bobby Flay. CLICK HERE for the recipe that gets two thumbs up from the Cellarmaster Wines team; probably had something to do with the extra liberal pour of Buffalo Trace Bourbon we used 🙂
When all the Trick and Treating’s done and you’re home with your candy loot, it’s time to pop your feet up and pour yourself a well deserved glass of vino. But what to pour? Does wine even go with Candy? Abso’bloody’lutely!
CANDY CORN OR WHITE RABBITS – you’ll need a big buttery Chardonnay to go with these vanilla flavoured chompers. Try Dry Creek Foggy Oaks Chardonnay 2009, perfect with it’s bright citrus characters and buttery richness.
HERSEY KISSES – There’s just something magical about pairing chocolate and red wine. If you’re popping milk kisses try spritzing things up a little with Gianni Gagliardo Villa M Rosso 2012. This sparkling dessert wines fresh and fragrant flavour will balance the sweetness perfectly. For the darker chocolate lovers we suggest pairing your chocolate bites with a De Loach California Zinfandel 2010. With red fruit and molasses characters this Zinny makes this match up just plain naughty.
CARAMELS – are made for Whiskey, the way the caramel reacts to the intense deep richness of good Bourbon Whiskey like Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey is wickedly good. If you’ve ever tried a Salted Whiskey Caramel you’ll know what I’m talking about!
Well that’s our take on Halloween this year, make it a boo’tiful one people.
